Motive ‑ Privacy‑Minded Search vs Search Veilfor Shopify (2026)
Motive ‑ Privacy‑Minded Search and Search Veil, while both categorized under Shopify's Search and Navigation, cater to vastly different needs. Motive focuses on enhancing the customer's search experience through AI-powered conversational search, aiming to improve product discovery, increase add-to-carts, and provide AI-driven insights. It emphasizes a privacy-first approach and boasts features like AI overviews, conversational AI analytics, and extensive control over product display. Search Veil, conversely, is a utility app designed to restrict the visibility of specific products within a Shopify store's search results. Its core function is to hide products based on tags, categories, product IDs, or stock levels, fulfilling a need for merchants who require granular control over product accessibility within their store's search functionality. Motive is geared towards merchants seeking to improve their search functionality and overall customer experience through advanced AI capabilities. Its value proposition lies in increased sales and actionable insights derived from conversational AI analytics. Search Veil serves merchants who have a strategic need to hide products from general search, often for reasons like bundling with specific orders or internal-only items, providing a method for controlling product accessibility and avoiding confusion in the customer's product discovery process. The apps address orthogonal problems and have minimal feature overlap. Choosing the right app depends heavily on the specific requirements of a Shopify store. If the goal is to elevate the search experience and harness the power of AI, Motive is the clear choice. However, if there is a need to control product visibility within the store's search, Search Veil is designed for this purpose.
