OCT Shipping Rates Calculator vs Shipping & Delivery ‑ ShipZipfor Shopify (2026)
OCT Shipping Rates Calculator and Shipping & Delivery ‑ ShipZip both aim to provide Shopify merchants with custom shipping rate calculation capabilities. However, Shipping & Delivery ‑ ShipZip appears to be a more robust and feature-rich solution targeting merchants with complex shipping needs, as evidenced by its comprehensive feature set described in the app description. OCT Shipping Rates Calculator, with significantly fewer reviews, likely offers a simpler, more streamlined approach to shipping rate calculation. Shipping & Delivery ‑ ShipZip explicitly requires Carrier Calculated Shipping API to function, potentially posing a barrier to entry for some merchants, but enabling more granular control over rates. Shipping & Delivery - ShipZip's emphasis on product-specific rules (SKU, tags, vendors), zip code-based shipping, distance-based calculations, incremental rates, and local delivery features suggests its suitability for businesses with diverse product lines, geographical shipping complexities, or local delivery/pickup options. Conversely, OCT Shipping Rates Calculator, due to the limited information available, seems aimed at merchants seeking a more basic shipping rate calculator with potentially less configuration overhead.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a straightforward and potentially easier-to-configure shipping rate calculator, OCT Shipping Rates Calculator might suffice, especially if they don't require advanced features. However, the limited number of reviews makes it difficult to definitively assess its capabilities. For merchants with complex shipping needs, including product-specific rules, zip code-based calculations, distance-based rates, local delivery, and store pickup, Shipping & Delivery ‑ ShipZip is the clear choice. The requirement for Carrier Calculated Shipping API should be considered before installation, but the extensive feature set offers significant control and flexibility.
Shipping & Delivery ‑ ShipZip would be particularly beneficial for businesses like bakeries, flower shops, or stores with geographically diverse customer bases. OCT Shipping Rates Calculator is better suited for those just starting out or for stores with simple shipping needs.
