Ongoing Disable Right Click vs Shop Guardfor Shopify (2026)
Ongoing Disable Right Click and Shop Guard both aim to protect Shopify stores from theft, but they approach the problem with vastly different strategies. Ongoing Disable Right Click focuses solely on preventing content theft through disabling right-click functionality. It boasts a perfect 5/5 rating, albeit based on only four reviews. Shop Guard, on the other hand, takes a broader approach, including geographic restrictions, IP blocking, GDPR compliance tools, and also disables copy-click and keyboard shortcuts, making it more of a comprehensive security solution. However, Shop Guard currently has no reviews, making its reliability and effectiveness uncertain. The target audience for Ongoing Disable Right Click is likely smaller merchants or those particularly concerned about visual content theft and are looking for a simple, focused solution. Shop Guard, with its country blocking and GDPR features, appeals to merchants with international customers and a heightened awareness of legal compliance and broader security concerns, even if it lacks validation from user reviews at the moment. The absence of reviews for Shop Guard is a significant concern that merchants should be aware of.

Our Verdict
If a merchant's primary concern is simply preventing right-click image theft, and they prefer a solution with a proven (albeit limited) track record, Ongoing Disable Right Click is the better choice. However, merchants needing a more comprehensive solution addressing geographic restrictions, GDPR compliance, and broader content protection should consider Shop Guard. Given the lack of reviews for Shop Guard, it is advisable to thoroughly investigate the app and potentially contact the developer for more information before committing to it. It might be prudent to wait for user feedback to emerge before relying on Shop Guard for critical security needs. Consider testing Shop Guard extensively on a development store.
Common Questions
Which app is better for preventing image theft?
Both apps claim to disable right-click functionality, a common method for stealing images. Ongoing Disable Right Click focuses solely on this, while Shop Guard includes it as part of a broader suite of features. Without user reviews for Shop Guard, it's impossible to definitively say which is better, but Ongoing Disable Right Click has a proven (if limited) track record.
Which app is better for GDPR compliance?
Shop Guard explicitly mentions a GDPR consent banner, suggesting it's designed to help merchants comply with GDPR regulations. Ongoing Disable Right Click doesn't mention GDPR at all.
Which app is easier to use?
Ongoing Disable Right Click likely offers a simpler user experience due to its focused functionality. Shop Guard, with its broader feature set, may require more configuration and management.
Which app offers better value for money?
Value depends on the merchant's needs. If the primary need is right-click protection, Ongoing Disable Right Click could be a better value. If broader security and compliance features are needed, Shop Guard might offer better value, assuming it performs as advertised, which is unknown due to the lack of reviews.
What are the risks of using Shop Guard with no reviews?
Using an app with no reviews carries inherent risks. The app might not function as described, could contain bugs, or could even be abandoned by the developer, leaving the merchant without support or updates. Careful evaluation and testing are crucial before relying on it for critical security needs.
