OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POS vs Progus Store Locator Mapfor Shopify (2026)
OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POS and Progus Store Locator Map are both 5-star rated apps on the Shopify app store, however, they address fundamentally different business needs. OpenFiskal caters specifically to merchants in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH region) who require fiscal compliance for their POS systems. Its focus is on adhering to KassenSichV and RKSV regulations, providing features like secure receipt signing with QR codes, Z-reports, and accounting exports. Progus Store Locator Map, on the other hand, targets merchants with physical store locations and aims to improve discoverability and drive in-store traffic. It offers customizable maps, store location management, and analytics to understand customer search patterns. The critical difference lies in their purpose. OpenFiskal is a compliance-driven app ensuring legal operation within specific countries, while Progus Store Locator is a marketing and customer experience tool aimed at boosting sales through improved store visibility. OpenFiskal users are bound by legal requirements and need a technical solution for fiscalization. Progus users are making a strategic decision to enhance their customer experience and marketing efforts. Their overlapping category 'Selling in person' simply describes how both apps can be useful for merchants engaging with customers in a physical setting. Finally, Progus appeals to a wider international audience, with multilingual support and no requirement for complex local regulations. Its appeal is universal amongst Shopify merchants who operate brick and mortar locations. OpenFiskal, being highly specialized, is only relevant for merchants based in specific countries and dealing with fiscal reporting and the local legal requirements.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants operating POS systems in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POS is a *necessary* app to ensure compliance with local fiscal regulations. Its specialized features, such as QR code signing and Z-report generation, are essential for legal operation. Progus Store Locator Map is unsuitable for this use case because it doesn't offer the necessary fiscal compliance features.
For merchants with physical stores who want to enhance their online presence and drive in-store traffic, Progus Store Locator Map is the superior choice. It offers customizable maps, store location management, and analytics to help customers find their locations. While OpenFiskal might be used *alongside* Progus in the DACH region to provide location information *and* compliance for store purchases, they serve fundamentally different purposes and aren't directly comparable for the broader merchant population.
