Pay Later, Split Pay ‑ Cypher vs TryOnify: Try Before You Buyfor Shopify (2026)
Pay Later, Split Pay ‑ Cypher and TryOnify: Try Before You Buy are both Shopify apps offering alternative payment options, but they cater to distinct merchant needs. Pay Later, Split Pay ‑ Cypher focuses on providing flexible payment terms like partial payments, deposits, and net terms, addressing the need for high-value or custom order merchants who want to reduce purchase friction for customers needing installment options. This includes pre-orders or made-to-order products. TryOnify: Try Before You Buy, on the other hand, champions a "try before you buy" model, deferring payment until after a trial period. The core difference lies in their approach to payment flexibility. Cypher facilitates splitting payments or delaying them using traditional options, which can apply to almost any product. TryOnify allows customers to test the product without immediate commitment, reducing abandonment driven by uncertainty or perceived risk. Cypher aims to close sales for costly items, while TryOnify seeks to convert customers hesitant to make initial purchases, using trust as the conversion lever. TryOnify touts the elimination of predatory lending associated with some BNPL offerings.
