Search & Discovery ‑ Visely vs Smart Search & Filterfor Shopify (2026)
Search & Discovery ‑ Visely and Smart Search & Filter are both Shopify apps designed to improve the search and navigation experience on e-commerce stores, ultimately aiming to boost sales and user engagement. Visely positions itself as a 'hustle-free' solution focusing on ease of use and seamless integration with existing themes. Its strength lies in its white-glove service for UI customization and broad feature set, including recommendations. Visely appears to be designed for merchants who want a comprehensive search solution with tailored filters and recommendations that blend organically into their site. Smart Search & Filter, on the other hand, emphasizes AI-powered personalization and advanced analytics. Its core value proposition revolves around providing highly relevant search results based on context-aware analysis. It is geared toward merchants who need a more sophisticated search functionality, with a focus on data-driven results and rule-based merchandising. While Visely emphasizes customizability via manual setup, Smart Search & Filter leverages artificial intelligence to deliver tailored search experiences automatically. Therefore, the best fit depends on the merchant's comfort level with AI and their desire for granular control versus automated optimization.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a user-friendly, customizable search and discovery solution with robust recommendation features and personalized white-glove service to blend into their theme, Search & Discovery ‑ Visely is the superior choice. It's best suited for businesses that value a hands-on approach to search configuration and want to tailor the experience based on specific shopper segments.
However, Smart Search & Filter is the better option for merchants who prioritize AI-driven personalization and advanced analytics to automatically optimize search results. If you're comfortable letting AI handle the heavy lifting and need a powerful, data-backed solution for improving conversion rates, Smart Search & Filter offers a more compelling feature set.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Search & Discovery - Visely emphasizes a 'hustle-free' experience and offers white-glove service to blend into your theme, suggesting a potentially easier initial setup, though customization might require more effort. Smart Search & Filter advertises as highly customizable and working with any theme, so might be more friendly to DIY merchants. However, Visely's white-glove service indicates a strong focus on onboarding support.
Which app offers better personalization?
Smart Search & Filter's core functionality revolves around AI-powered personalized search and visitor segmentation, indicating a more automated and data-driven approach to personalization. Visely provides customization options for international and business shoppers but may require more manual configuration to achieve the same level of personalization.
Which app is better for merchants with large product catalogs?
Both apps claim to handle large catalogs effectively. Visely mentions real-time catalog syncs. Smart Search & Filter's AI-powered search might provide better results out of the box for complex product data, but both apps should be suitable for large catalogs in general.
Which app offers more comprehensive analytics?
Smart Search & Filter explicitly mentions 'advanced analytics' as a key feature, suggesting a more robust analytics dashboard compared to Visely, which doesn't highlight analytics as prominently.
Does either app offer A/B testing?
