DRINKS ASSURE vs VerifyID ‑ Age Verificationfor Shopify (2026)
DRINKS ASSURE and VerifyID ‑ Age Verification are both Shopify apps in the Legal category, but they cater to very different needs within that space. DRINKS ASSURE focuses on alcohol producers and retailers needing comprehensive tax and compliance automation integrated directly into the Shopify checkout. Its strength lies in its real-time tax calculation, pre-configured compliance rules (automatically updated), and reporting capabilities, even extending to POS integration and ShipCompliant connectivity. This makes it suitable for merchants needing a hands-off solution to navigate the complexities of alcohol sales regulations across different regions. VerifyID, on the other hand, is designed specifically for Shopify stores selling age-restricted products in Denmark and Sweden. Its core value proposition is legally compliant age verification using MitID or BankID at checkout, ensuring adherence to Danish law no. 651 of 11/06/2024 (L173) and Swedish regulation HSLF-FS 2019:20. It allows merchants to define age restrictions for products and categories, all while maintaining GDPR compliance. The app is a niche solution targeting a specific legal requirement in two particular countries. The difference in rating and reviews may be attributable to VerifyID being much newer and more geographically restricted.

Our Verdict
Choosing between DRINKS ASSURE and VerifyID ‑ Age Verification depends entirely on the nature of the products you sell and the countries you operate in. If you're an alcohol producer or retailer, especially in the United States, struggling with tax and compliance related to alcohol sales, DRINKS ASSURE is the obvious choice due to its comprehensive automation and reporting capabilities. The app will help automate all of the excise tax compliance for online alcohol sales and reporting. However, if you operate a Shopify store in Denmark or Sweden and sell age-restricted products, VerifyID is essential to ensure legal compliance with local regulations. The integration of MitID or BankID provides a legally defensible solution for age verification within the checkout process. Given VerifyID is only targeting 2 countries at the moment, it is impossible to replace it with DRINKS ASSURE.
In conclusion, DRINKS ASSURE focuses on a broad solution for US alcohol sellers, while VerifyID offers a niche solution to protect age-restricted retailers in Denmark and Sweden.
Common Questions
Can DRINKS ASSURE verify the age of my customers?
While DRINKS ASSURE focuses on alcohol tax and compliance, it doesn't explicitly state that it provides age verification. It's primarily concerned with ensuring the correct taxes and regulations are applied during the checkout process. You might need a separate app for age verification depending on your specific requirements.
Does VerifyID work outside of Denmark and Sweden?
No, VerifyID is specifically designed to comply with Danish law no. 651 of 11/06/2024 (L173) and Swedish regulation HSLF-FS 2019:20, utilizing MitID or BankID for age verification. These eID systems are specific to those countries, making the app unusable elsewhere.
Which app is easier to set up?
Based on the descriptions, VerifyID likely has a simpler setup process. Merchants only need to choose their eID solution (MitID or BankID) and define age restrictions for products. DRINKS ASSURE, while offering 'set-it-and-forget' functionality, implies a more complex initial configuration to ensure accurate tax calculation and compliance across various jurisdictions and reporting needs.
Is DRINKS ASSURE GDPR compliant?
The description of DRINKS ASSURE doesn't explicitly mention GDPR compliance. It's essential to verify this directly with the app developer, especially if you handle customer data in Europe.
Can I use both DRINKS ASSURE and VerifyID together?
It's *possible* to use both apps, but likely redundant. If you sell alcohol in Denmark or Sweden, VerifyID is essential for age verification. DRINKS ASSURE might offer additional tax benefits, but it might also be redundant as the countries themselves may require alternative legal compliance. It depends on your specific needs.
