Essential Free Shipping Upsell vs Monster Checkout Upsellfor Shopify (2026)
Essential Free Shipping Upsell and Monster Checkout Upsell both aim to increase Average Order Value (AOV), but they employ distinct strategies. Essential Free Shipping Upsell focuses on pre-checkout incentives, using a progress bar to encourage customers to reach a free shipping threshold, coupled with cart upsells and cross-sells directly visible during the shopping experience. Its strength lies in its high rating and numerous reviews suggesting widespread satisfaction and ease of implementation within the customer's primary shopping journey. Monster Checkout Upsell, on the other hand, concentrates on post-purchase upsells. It displays upsell, cross-sell, and down-sell offers *after* a customer has completed their initial purchase. This approach is designed to be non-intrusive to the initial buying process, providing additional purchase opportunities with a single click. However, its lower rating and significantly fewer reviews indicate it's either newer or has not resonated with as many merchants, warranting closer scrutiny before adopting. The primary difference is the timing of the upsell – before or after the initial checkout process.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing a highly rated and well-established app that integrates seamlessly into the existing shopping experience, driving AOV by incentivizing customers towards free shipping thresholds and offering relevant cart upsells, Essential Free Shipping Upsell is the stronger choice. Its numerous positive reviews and flexible placement options suggest it’s a reliable and effective solution.
However, if a merchant is seeking a less intrusive approach to AOV maximization, focusing on capturing additional sales *after* the initial purchase is complete, Monster Checkout Upsell could be a worthwhile experiment. Although it has fewer reviews and a slightly lower rating, its post-purchase upsell funnels offer a unique opportunity to engage customers at a different stage in the buying process. Smaller stores might consider starting with Essential Free Shipping Upsell due to its popularity and then expanding with Monster Checkout Upsell for further AOV gains.
