Essential Free Shipping Upsell vs Upsell Engine by Squarefor Shopify (2026)
Essential Free Shipping Upsell focuses heavily on leveraging free shipping thresholds to increase Average Order Value (AOV). It aims to encourage customers to add more items to their cart by displaying a progress bar and offering rewards like free shipping or discounts once a certain spending goal is met. It also integrates cart upsells and cross-sells for additional revenue generation. The sheer volume of reviews suggests a well-established presence and widespread adoption. Upsell Engine by Square, on the other hand, provides very little detail beyond its name, rating, and categorization. Given the lack of specifics, it's difficult to ascertain its core functionality and target audience beyond the general 'upsell and cross-sell' category. The significantly lower number of reviews raises questions about its market penetration or recency.

Our Verdict
Based on available information, Essential Free Shipping Upsell seems more suitable for merchants specifically looking to leverage free shipping as a motivator to increase AOV. Its detailed feature set, including the customizable progress bar, revenue tracking, and integrated upsell options, offer a clear path to achieving this goal. The large number of positive reviews adds to its credibility. Upsell Engine by Square, while potentially valuable, suffers from a lack of information. Until more details are available, it's difficult to recommend it over Essential Free Shipping Upsell, especially for merchants prioritizing free shipping-based strategies. Merchants who are brand new to upselling and already using Square might consider it based on platform familiarity, but they should temper expectations.
